Review: Considering the social and economic importance of slavery in Americas history, the scarcity of serious films depicting the daily life of slaves in the Confederate States is significant - especially since the after-effects from this shameful episode still echo through the culture. 12 Years a Slave is based upon the memoirs of Solomon Northup, who endured a hellish period of enslavement in Louisiana, which is backed up by legal records. The story begins with him living with wife and children in upstate New York as a free man and respected member of his community. After being lured to Washington by a couple of con-artists who promised him work, he was subsequently drugged, locked in chains, viciously beaten, stripped of his identity and shipped to New Orleans to be sold into slavery. Over the next twelve years, he was owned by two men who treated him in contrasting ways. The first was a relatively civilized fellow, but the plantations half-witted manager was threatened by Northups superior intelligence. Their mutual dislike produced a dangerously volatile situation, and unwilling to lose his investment, Northups owner re-sold him to a neighbor. This unbalanced individual regarded his slaves as property to be used for pleasure and profit, which caused them to live in perpetual fear that his capricious moods would flare into sadistic lust or rage at any moment. Its noteworthy that a British director has become one of the few filmmakers to delve deeply into this subject, and the combination of John Ridleys powerful script and McQueens directorial skills has inspired exceptional performances from the entire cast. Their dramatization of Northups experiences is both riveting and uncomfortable to watch, as the film depicts the perverse nature of a society that permitted such a barbaric system. Hopefully it will reach a large US audience, who will learn how a privileged Southern elite cruelly exploited their fellow humans in order to acquire greater wealth for themselves.

Review: First I want to say that this is one of the best (and entertaining as hell!) social commentary films Ive seen since Terry Gilliams Brazil and Paul Verhoevens Robocop. Yes there are a lot of plot points that dont make much sense if looked at from the perspective of our reality. But this film does NOT aim to be realistic. In fact, Id say the goal of the director is to make it as surrealistic as possible. And I applaud him to be so successful in that: in many moments during the film, I felt I was experiencing a fevered dream of a fried fish. -- Thats how insane this film is. It takes great genius to present something as insane as the plot of Snowpiercer. This film will be remembered, analyzed and revered for a long, long time. The icing on the cake is that the social commentary content is actually intriguing. The film is decent enough to leave enough ambiguity so that the audiences can make their own conclusions. 9 out of 10.

Review: It is a perfectly paced surreal piece of cinema. its like nothing I have seen before. Stills from movie will shown in galleries for years to come. The film is not for everyone I must admit. But dont be discouraged by dim witted reviews. The plot is not explained by the characters at every free moment and requires you think and use your imagination to fill in the blanks, which I found so refreshing. I urge you go check this film out first chance you. Its great to original film and original film makers like Glazer pushing the boundaries of film in ways other vfx. The only way people like Glazer will get to carry on making films if everyone gets out and supports these kinds of films. Or we just end up transformers 4 ,5 and 6.

Review: I once heard someone say that chart music is music for people who dont like music. I couldnt agree more. Daytime radio in the UK sucks, and the playlist totals about 20 songs which get played over and over, every single day. No originality, nothing to inspire, nothing to get your teeth into - just like this movie. The Internship is basically a film for people who dont like films.Just what section of the cinematic audience this pile of tripe is aimed at I really dont know. Maybe its teenagers, those Dre wearing plastic headphone types who like to think they live in a land of cool and internet worldliness, but then it features two middle-aged heroes trying to find a job at Google so how does that compute? Pardon the pun.Is it aimed at confused adults then? Showing two hapless characters, trying to connect with the modern world, creating havoc along the way, some slapstick laughs, poking fun at our internet based lives, and generally piling on the jibes at web nerds expense? Erm, maybe, but then.... this movie is about as funny as root canal. What you get here is a headache inducing, cerebral bombing, diarrhoea of pointless noise masquerading as cinema which is the aural equivalent of a strobe light for your earholes. Not one aspect of the dialogue herein is worth catching. I suspect that the makers just thought that if they hit you with a blur of meaningless words, really really quickly, you might think you saw something of unapparent usefulness. The result being, a sensation of getting an electric eggwhisk inserted into your brain and switched on.I find it sad that either someone thought there was a market for this total waste of celluloid and time, or even worse...that somewhere out there, there actually are people who enjoy garbage like this. I guess it may actually be the latter as we live in a world slowly descending into mediocrity and superficiality, and here, this movie is king.I feel embarrassed to say I saw this movie, because I know someone is laughing somewhere after cashing in on knowing its easy to feed pigs anything and they will eat it. There are others though, who have more discerning tastes.

Review: Unfortunately the marketing for this film is subpar and misleading, as it was for the first one. My best advice to you is ***AVOID THE TRAILERS AT ALL COSTS. They include major spoilers to some very emotional points in the film. This is another level of animated film, one that gracefully crosses generational gaps and will speak volumes to any age group. Because of the critical and audience acclaim of the beloved predecessor, many are afraid that a sequel will not match the mastery of the first one, that this would be created purely as a money-making gimmick, like many Hollywood sequels. If these are your presumptions, you couldnt be more wrong. This film is worthy of all the hopes and expectations you are afraid to carry into the theater. DeBlois has told us a moving story, one that wont be soon forgotten, that so many of us will connect with. At Comic Con 2013, DeBlois said that this was The Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy. That is a hefty promise, which he has successfully delivered. The world of HTTYD2 has been vastly expanded and explored, very little of the film takes place on Berk. It is much more of an adventure film. The film has taken everything from HTTYD to the next level: emotion, intensity, action, adventure, humor, and depth. It takes risks I have seen so few animated films take, full of twists and turns, that will keep you engaged and invested. For me the film could have had a stronger beginning, a few less childish jokes, and a bit slower pacing (probably should have been about 10 minutes longer). Other than some very nit-picky notes, that is literally the worst that I can say about it.HTTYD2 is a phenomenal film and will deservedly pick up the academy award for best animated film of the year. John Powell, will again be nominated (and hopefully win) for his inventively emotional score. This was my most anticipated film of the past two years and it does not disappoint. The four years of work on it show, as it is a polished film. It is one of those rare films that inspires. And one of the few that you walk out of the theater feeling so much emotion and thinking Gosh, I cant wait to see that again.

Review: This film tells the story of a father who sits everything to stop a man from saying his daughter.I find the story very touching and it really spoke to my heart. It tells how unrelenting the young man called David is, in courting an eligible girl called Jade. No matter how difficult the circumstances are, he finds a way to break through. It also shows how Jade changes after meeting David. I really enjoyed the film, it brought tears to my eyes. It may not be artistic or ground breaking, but it touches the heart strings. I think its a film to feel, and I really enjoyed watching it.
